Aberfoyle Forest

Aberfoyle Forest

UAV365 surveyed a proposed quarry site for Forestry and Land Scotland which involved producing a topographical survey and resulting cleaned pointcloud. The job requirement involved removing all vegetation from the data to understand the topography of the land for future planning.

The team utilised the Emesent Hovermap ST to capture the entire area in under twenty minutes. The tree canopy proved too dense to use GPS, therefore ground control was surveyed with reflective discs via a total station resection, providing survey control on the forest floor. The resulting video features the entire site, with an underlying contour map of the forest floor and vegetation removal - highlighting both the benefits of LiDAR in densely vegetated environments and also the reliability of the Emesent Hovermap ST to provide quality data in challenging areas.
