Leeds City Culvert

CULVERT UNDER a PROPOSED DEVELOPMENT

Our challenge was to establish the condition and extent of a 90 metre long culvert, and produce 3D data of the structure to be used for a line and level survey. This data was tied to existing surface level topographic information to guide and develop the plans for the site.

The client made the decision to use drone technology to avoid the personnel risks and costs associated with manned entry. Running through the centre of Leeds, the Meanwood Beck is a culverted river that was formed during the Industrial Revolution. Since then, the city has expanded over the top of these culverts and one such space, near Mabgate, is located below a future development site.
